Greetings. Taking the energy and positive acknowledgement of receiving a 2015 Meier Achievement Award, I have been super productive in studio. In the last few months, I have produced a new body of work that I am excited to be showcasing in an current solo show in Miami that opened on February 13th. I think the show really came together and highlights my current trajectory in my studio practice. Check out the slide/gallery below to see some images of the show.
(Miami, FL – January 15, 2016). N´Namdi Contemporary Fine Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Moments of Gravity, by the artist Eric Stephenson, which will take place on Saturday, February 13th, from 6-10 pm (as part of the regular Wynwood Monthly Art Walk), and will be open to the public until March 26th.
The exhibition will include sculptures and drawings made with materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, glass, graphite and paper. The underlying theme of the show rotates around the human body in its various forms of movement: fall, torsion, flight, etc. The concept of gravity and its action on the body is crucial in most of the works. According to the artist: “By default we see the human form grounded, feet firmly on a horizontal plane. But what if gravity was random or if we had the ability to defy it? The work in this show explores the human form falling, twisting, hovering and yes flying. Through the use of line and form, 3D and shadow, I hope to capture and hint to those sudden burst of gravity”.
